The small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae L.)

Small Tortoiseshell hibernates in caves, attics to basements. Under favorable temperature begins to be active in March. During the year appears two to three generations. Caterpillars are slim. Alternating yellow-green (thinner) and black stripes along the sides of the body. They feed on the nettle in the cluster ordinary. It is a common butterfly. It can be found on the sunny forest clearings, forest roads, meadows, gardens and ruderal areas. Wings of intensely colored red. The front pair of wings are numerous yellow and black spots. Rear trunk closer to a uniform dark color. Edges of wings are blue-black with white spots. The length of the front wing is about 2.5 cm.
